5G Pixel 6 series owners, rejoice! The delayed January update is here to fix your phone

The January update for the pixel 6 and The Pixel 6 Pro is now available after a delay that prevented owners of new Pixel models from installing software they hoped would squash bugs that plagued Google’s new phones. Once the update is installed on a Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro, bugs like the one that prevented device owners from making emergency calls should be gone forever.

Software update for Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro

On the Google Pixel update page, Google writes: “The software update for Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will begin rolling out to devices on January 14. This update includes all of the fixes below, as well as all Fixes for Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro in the December 2021 update release. The update will be available for all devices within the next week, but the exact timing may vary depending on your carrier and country.”

So let’s go back and once again look at the problems you can fix on your 2021 Pixel phones:

  • Fixed an issue causing the Pixel 6/6 Pro screen to unlock after a missed call when a screen lock was not set.

Network and Telephony

  • Improvements to data connectivity on certain networks and conditions.
  • Fixed issue that prevented the use of the Caller Screen feature when the phone was used with certain wireless service providers.
  • Fixed issue that prevented Pixel 6/6 Pro users with the Microsoft Team app installed from making emergency calls.

  • Fixed issue that prevented the Pixel Stand settings for launching apps from updating under certain conditions.
  • Fixed issue that caused increased battery usage in the background under certain conditions.

  • Fixed issue showing too much data usage or too little data usage in the network menu for some carriers.
  • Fixed issue that caused the device to reboot under certain conditions after installing an OTA software update.

User interface

  • Fixed issue that caused a black frame to appear when dismissing the Assistant overlay on the lock screen.
  • Fixed issue that, under certain conditions, caused a memory leak in the system UI.
  • Fixed issue causing the navigation bar to hide when switching from landscape to portrait and vice versa under certain conditions.
  • Fixed issue causing the PIP window to display incorrectly for certain applications.

  • Fixed issue causing Wi-Fi network to lose connectivity under certain conditions.
  • The update, which weighed in at a svelte 215MB, can be installed on your Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro by going to Settings > System > Upgrade system.
