Call Of Duty 2022 Rumored To Arrive Early Due To Poor Vanguard Sales

This year’s Call of Duty could arrive as early as October, according to journalist Tom Henderson, who has built a respectable track record of leaking information about Call of Duty and other major franchises.

in a tweet on january 13Henderson reports that he’s heard “rumors” that this fall’s Call of Duty game, which is supposed to be a follow-up to Modern Warfare 2019, could be moved up a month early for an October release. The leaker claims that this change is due to poor sales of Call of Duty: Vanguard. While Vanguard topped the PlayStation Store sales charts in North America and Europe for its November release, overall sales were down a bit from last year’s figures for Black Ops Cold War.

Henderson also added that the early release of Call of Duty 2022 would bring a “big” Call of Duty: Warzone update shortly after. However, this Warzone report seems to follow suit with previous titles, as Raven Software integrated 2020’s Black Ops Cold War and 2021’s Vanguard into Warzone within a month or two of each game’s release.

With these claims, Henderson also says that the sequel to Modern Warfare is scheduled to be revealed during the summer. This also wouldn’t be too surprising as the time frame matches previous reveals, as Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard both had August reveal dates.

Other details rumored about Call of Duty 2022 include a story focused on Colombian drug cartels, a “moral compass” system, and a Warzone map that includes the classic Afghan, Quarry, Terminal, and Trailer Park locations from Modern Warfare 2. from 2009.

Call of Duty continues to churn out new content as strikes protesting surprise contract terminations continue within Raven Software’s QA team, and Activision Blizzard employees have recently reported leadership radio silence regarding reconciliation attempts. Activision Blizzard is also facing lawsuits and other investigations related to alleged sexual harassment and discrimination against women.
